Lymphatic Massage vs Soft Tissue Mobilization: InHands Postop’s Hybrid Approach to Healing

Lymphatic Massage, in particular the Vodder technique, is globally accepted as the standard of care to manage subdermal swelling due to chronic and transitory conditions. It involves gentle, expert-precision, stretching to the skin to direct fluids toward the body’s natural drainage pathways.

How firm should pressure be? For lymphatic-based applications, we use only the weight of our hands to create enough pressure to engage the skin. That’s all that is needed to be effective because the delicate lymphatic capillaries are prone to collapse with too much pressure. By gently pulling the skin in the direction we want fluid to go, we are able to mechanically open the valves on the lymphatic vessels and allow fluid to enter the system.

Soft Tissue Mobilization is a general term for using the hands or an instrument to encourage movement of the soft tissues of the body. At InHands Postoperative Therapy and Recovery, we utilize all of the best tools and tech to masterfully mobilize hard and immobile issue after surgeries. If left untreated, contour abnormalities could become permanent features of your surgical result. We are meticulously trained in only using as much pressure as is needed to be effective because the last thing a healing postop body needs is to deal with MORE INFLAMMATION from techniques that are too aggressive.

At InHands, we find value in a hybrid approach to treat both pre-fibrotic lumps and bumps, scar tissue formation, and to carefully support lymphatic health.
