Incisional Drainage and Why We Just Say No.

drainage is the act of reopening surgical incisions and using repetitive “milking” strokes to wring lymphatic fluid from the body.

Yes, it is as bad as it sounds and is actually ILLEGAL in many states if not performed under the direct orders of an MD - including here in California!

Aside from increasing the risk of infection, it delays healing by at least as long as it takes for the incisions to reclose and recover from the trauma of being opened and reopened. At InHands Postoperative, we believe that bodies are intelligent and they create and deliver lymphatic fluid to postoperative tissues for an important purpose - to heal! That’s why we use only safe and sound mobilization techniques that do not put our patients at increased risks.

We also believe that faster healing makes for better surgical results! So you can rest easy knowing our team will do all we can to keep incisions safely closed and on their path to beautiful healing.
